Marcie T. Hull - ecram3: had a database online with parent #'s w/my iPhone I only need to touch the # to call all the parents for report card meetings! TOO EASY
Chris Lehmann - chrislehmann: @ecram3 Hello... why don't I have that? :)
John Blake - blakej: @ecram3 share more about your database integration- when you have time on your blog maybe- would love to learn more about this
This twitter-sation (it's not really a conversation) just happened, so here is my long explanation.
You may call it a homeroom, at SLA we call it an Advisory. I am the lucky teacher of 17 students though their four years at SLA. We meet twice a week to go over all kinds of school business, personal business, relationship building and creating a safe place to land. Every year, twice a year the adviser has a report card meeting with the parents and the advisee. Because of this I built a document on Google Docs to keep track of all the appointments. I put the parents phone numbers in this document.
I bought an iPhone two weeks ago. I am still learning to use it as I am learning I notice that the phone numbers are link blue color, so I touch one and I get a dialog box that has a button for call and a button for cancel.
Now I can bring up that document and dial all my parents right there on my iPhone with out typing in numbers again. All this while I sit in front of my laptop and update the database. This saves so much time and it is too easy.
How about a principal or whoever that wants numbers at his/her fingertips but does not want to jam up their iPhone with a bunch of numbers not often used? Create a Google Doc, your school/business will be a couple of touches away. The beauty of this is most of the creation of these documents will be as fast as you can copy and paste!
